Family and friends, thanks so much for your prayers and support – they mean the world to us.
After a couple days in the hospital this past weekend, Sandi is feeling weak and drained, but the nausea has passed, which is good. We had an update meeting with the medical staff yesterday and heard some encouraging news as well as more details about the future schedule. Her blood counts are all on track so we can move forward and are scheduled for the next round on May 23rd, which will have her back in Emory Hospital for 3 more days just before Memorial Weekend. About 2 weeks later, they will start the stem cell collection process. The third and final round of aggressive chemo should then start around the week of June 19th, and then the stem cell transplant process will probably start in early July and have her in the hospital for about a month. The month of July won’t be much fun.
Because we are pursuing an autologous approach (i.e. using Sandis own stem cells), the recovery will be much faster (as in roughly 60 – 90 days), which is more great news. Emory Winship Cancer Institute does about 300 autologous stem cell transplants a year so they are quite experienced in successful procedures. We remain hopeful and encouraged that God will continue to use the doctors and the chemo to remove this cancer from Sandi’s body. Thanks again for your prayers and support.
